Happy 1st of March my friends. Isn’t it great to see evidence of spring? I am so thankful for all the beautiful colours popping up, the birds singing, the bees buzzing and the air heating up with the suns rays! And of course it's Mother's Day this month, another thing to look forward to!
Did you know that the first official Mother’s Day was first celebrated in 1908 in West Virginia? A lady called Anna Jarvis fought for this holiday as she wanted us all to honour all mothers because she believed a mother is the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world! However she did not like the commercialization of the holiday.
Internationally ‘Mothering Sunday’ also became celebrated but different countries have different dates. Here in the UK ‘Mothering Sunday’ is on the 4th Sunday of lent, this is because it has roots from the church and was originally unrelated to the American holiday.
Back to Anna Jarvis and not liking the commercialization of the holiday. I would love to know your thoughts. For me I do like to buy my mum gifts and send cards, especially as I don’t get to see her as much as I would like (even less with Covid restriction – by the time Mother’s Day comes around it will have been just over 4 months). I try to only buy gifts that I know she will appreciate and I also put in a gift receipt were appropriate just in case so there is no wastage. I won’t be needing that this year though as I have nailed it 😉! Also I’m really looking forward to a cuppa over facetime because even though I can’t physically meet her and give her a big hug I still need to have that connection, fingers crossed though that that hug is only a few months away!
